Astrid Hood

Prior to retiring from the corporate world, Astrid worked as a freelance Landscape Architect. Years of working with Metro Conservation and Ministry of Natural Resources had the most impact on her artistic themes and philosophy in depicting art in the native landscape. Since moving to the Kawartha Lakes area, her home is now on the shores of Lake Scugog where she can enjoy her love of the outdoors. Her art often gets inspired by daily sunset views and continual activities of wildlife, particularly water fowl and birds to create landscapes not only on canvas but she paints on furniture, upholstery, wood and canoe paddles. Her art style is experimental and impressionistic in acrylic. Astrid has become an active member in local arts groups such as the Kawartha Arts Network, Eastern Central Ontario Art Association and Scugog Arts Council. Artworks have been on display at galleries such as the Kawartha Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Bancroft and at the Mystery of The Park Art Exhibition at Algonquin Park Visitors Centre.

You will see her artwork on public display on Hwy 36, on the way to Bobcaygeon, as one of the selected pieces to beautify outdoor traffic control boxes in the town of Lindsay.  Astrid is a professional Paint Nite Host and you will find her at local venues conducting public painting events.
