Formally trained in the tech industry, Kate’s true passion has always been for Art. Kate studied sketching and acrylics but got hooked on oil painting for the first time in 2007. Since then she has been continuously developing her skills from other mentoring with other artists, books, workshops and online.
Working from her home/studio/gallery in a Heritage B&B in Millbrook Ontario, her focus is Landscape and Architecture. She is passionate about creating pieces that provide her viewers with a sense of sanctuary and belonging. She loves to paint historical homes and landscapes using vivid clean colours, imagining what they might have looked like when new. Recently she has started a collection of paintings featuring her other passion, dogs. She spends considerably more time contemplating and studying a subject than painting it. This approach allows her to discover what truly attracted her to the subject matter in the first place and work out the best way to communicate this to the viewer without interrupting the process of painting a loose natural and stylistic rendering of her subjects.
Kate is a member of the ECOAA and spent 3 years producing their newsletter. She sells online for the most part but is featured at Blank Canvas Gallery in Millbrook and hangs in the homes of many local collectors. She has participated and sold in multiple juried shows and placed in some. She recently appeared as a wildcard artist on episode 2 of Landscape Artist of the Year Canada.
In addition, she teaches out of her studio at the B&B and has created a comprehensive guide for those starting out in Oil Painting that she sends home with her students along with 3 months of online support while they begin their artistic journey. Kate also volunteers in the community by hosting painting fundraisers for local charities and donating paintings for fundraising
Her Artwork can be viewed at Blank Canvas Gallery or in person at her B&B in Millbrook Ontario by appointment.
