Barbara Craven

Barbara’s interest in photography began at a young age when her father gave her her first box brownie. She was self-taught until the early 70’s when she obtained her degree in photography from Sheridan college. Her second husband introduced her to the world of news, politics, tv and movie celebrities, and all the ethnocultural communities that resided in Ontario at that time. She found herself as the photographer for mayors, premiers, and a few prime ministers who held press conferences for the more than 30 ethnic communities; as well as many celebrities who wanted promotion when they came to town.

Early retirement brought Barbara and her husband to beautiful Bobcaygeon in 1990, and here she was able to give up the strictures of deadline photography and immerse herself in the wonders of nature with her camera. At the same time, she was pursuing a newfound interest in the art of basket weaving which she ended up teaching at Kawartha Settlers Village for the next 17 years.

After the death of her husband, she began to connect with other photographers and photography groups. She was able to immerse herself in, not only photography but photo editing and compositing and what you can create with your imagination.  She now works in a mixture of both, with the composites always starting with at least one of her original photos. She also does her own printing on various types of paper, and her prints are available framed, matted, and as cards.
