Lesley Drummond

Lesley Drummond is an artist, educator and curator who has been actively involved in the Arts community of Kawartha Lakes since 1985. Director of the Kawartha Arts Network (Kawartha Lakes artists’ co-operative) since 2007, she also served 9 years on the Kawartha Lakes Arts Council Board and is currently based in Janetville.

Although Lesley’s BFA background from Queen’s University provided her with experiences in a wide variety of media, her chosen materials initially became acrylics, charcoal, and photography. Broad experiences including extensive international travel, working in both private and public galleries, being Artist in Residence for three Ontario Provincial Parks and running the Visual Arts Department for three local high schools for thirty years solidified those skills and gave her the confidence and inspiration to move forward.

Since her retirement from teaching in 2015, Lesley has worked more in mixed media incorporating acrylics with photo transfers, collage, pastel, pencil, black marker, drywall compound and found objects onto her canvases. This has fulfilled her interest in working with actual textures along with exploring the technical challenge of recreating them in acrylics and dry media. The theme of “architectural space” is still a focus, but Lesley is also exploring a more design-focused approach.
