I began painting three years ago after retiring to Peterborough from a 30-year career as a bus driver for Brampton Transit. At 62, I had no idea I would find this new passion but was so inspired by the work of the many landscape artists showing at Buckhorn’s Gallery on the Lake, (particularly the motion filled work of Jenny Kastner), that I began taking painting classes locally, and have not stopped painting since! I enjoy trying to recreate light through trees, and capturing the serenity of hidden natural scenes – the physical texture that oil paint allows is wonderful! While studying under Peterborough artist Mary McLoughlin and Lakefield artist, Petter Rotter, I’ve enjoyed the focus on colour blending to achieve more realism in my detailed images of flowers and forest scenes. I hope I continue to live my motto: “One is never too old to re-invent oneself!”
