Olivia Vandersanden is a self-taught fibre artist who creates nature and wildlife inspired work out of her cozy yurt in Fenelon Falls, Ontario. Olivia creates two- and three-dimensional works using needle felting techniques. Her focus is Ontario birds as she gets unlimited inspiration from the birds visiting her feeders in the forest outside her home. Many of her works are adorned with bits of moss, lichen and twigs found while hiking through the woods looking for birds. She often creates unique, lifelike terrariums showcasing her detailed birds in natural poses/settings. Her two-dimensional work is often displayed in embroidery hoops or a carefully chosen frames salvaged from second-hand or antique stores. Despite birds being her area of interest, she also completes commissions on request of other species of wildlife. Olivia has also taught needle felting workshops and offers one on one or group lessons/workshops upon request in her Mongolian yurt located in Fenelon Falls.
