Brenda Benedet

Becoming an artist came a little later in life for Brenda Benedet when her life was rudely interrupted in 2018 with a breast cancer diagnosis, followed by a year of rigorous treatment.   When treatment was complete, art therapy, yoga and meditation became invaluable tools for recovery of her mind, body and soul.  During the peaks and valleys of healing, Brenda took formal art training experimenting painting, mosaic, drawing and resins.  She tapped into years of unspent creativity and inspiration.  A chance opportunity unfolded for Brenda to learn and explore the world of fibre arts.  She leaned deeply into wool painting, also known as 2d felting.  Her powerful connection with the tactile nature of fibre, colour, texture and realism would export her into a flow state where she would be suspended in time with each project.

Her initial works were inspired by gratitude for the surroundings in the Kawartha Lakes where she resides on Four Mile Lake. Sunsets, cottage scapes, and birds rounded out her inspiration.  Later her work expanded to include custom dog portraits where she openly states, “I fall in love with every dog I paint layer by layer as it comes to life”.  Today her commissions are shipped across North American.

Construction of Studio B was completed in 2021. It is home to her wool painting work, workshops and creative retreats.  Guest artists are also invited to teach their craft while sharing their joy of creativity and making.

As a breast cancer Thriver, Brenda volunteers doing Peer Support for patients with breast cancer as they take the journey that 1 in 8 women will also find themselves on.
